Costa Rica

Summer Travels

San José - Montezuma - Guanacaste, Costa Rica
June 29 - July 5 - 2014

Teachers are blessed with nearly three months of summer break. This vacation time is perfect for someone like me, who loves to wander around the world, visiting places both old & new. So when my Costa Rican friend Alex invited me & a handful of others to visit her country for a week, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm so glad I did!

We started the trip hiking around the Poás Volcano (found outside San José), which is still active. It is unique compared to other volcanoes as it offers a glimpse to the insides of its craters. The view was stunning. After roaming around outside, we watched the Costa Rica - Greece World Cup game at Alex's aunt's home (her family was tremendously kind & welcoming). The madness that ensued after Costa Rica's victory is indescribable - let's just say it was SO AMAZING to see a nation come together with pride & stand united - due to the win.

After a few days in the capital, we ventured to Montezuma, a hidden gem of the country. Although I took us about six hours to arrive to this tiny town, the traveling was well worth it. In this town we zip-lined through the jungle, snorkeled with the fish, cliff-dived into the falls & traveled by tiny boats to get to nearby islands. Both experiencing Montezuma with locals & witnessing the CR victory in the homeland made this trip one-of-a-kind.

We wrapped up the journey at an all-inclusive hotel in Guanacaste. Although the hotel was beautiful, I always prefer exploring the country I am in!
